Eye Surgical Procedures

Eye surgical procedure, also known as ocular surgery, is surgery performed on the eye by an ophthalmologist. The eye is a fragile organ, and requires extreme care before, during, and after a surgical procedure. At Mount Lotus Hospitals, our consultancy Ophthalmologists offer patients the most advanced and comprehensive treatments for all eye conditions. Our consultants are experts in managing all eye problems, including cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, corneal disease, retina conditions, and many other ophthalmologic disorders.

Cataract Surgery

Normally, the lens of your eye is clear. A cataract causes the lens to become cloudy, which eventually affects your vision. Cataract surgery is a procedure to remove the opacified lens of your eye and, in most cases, replace it with an artificial lens.

Adult Cataract Surgeries

At Mount Lotus Hospital, our experienced eye surgeons perform Micro Incision and no-stitch cataract surgery under topical anesthetic drops. In the majority of cases, anesthetic injection will not be used during the surgery and you will be expected to be discharged the same day. Your surgery will be performed pain-free and vision improvement can be expected within a couple of days.

Our surgeons are specialized in refractive custom cataract surgery. This entails tailoring the procedure to each patient care by minimizing the refractive error following surgery so that you will be less dependent on spectacles.

We provide phacoemulsification and lens implantation surgery with a wide range of internationally acclaimed intraocular lenses.

Pediatric Cataract Surgery

A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. While in most instances, this occurs as part of ageing, children can occasionally be affected too.

Pediatric cataracts often occur because of abnormal lens development during pregnancy. Genetic problems, infections, long term steroid medication usage can cause childhood cataracts.
Cataract surgery is required if it affects vision and your child’s day-to-day functional activities significantly. This is an inpatient procedure that involves the removal of the cloudy lens and replacement with an artificial intraocular lens in its place to restore vision.

In children, surgery is always performed under general anesthesia, with minimal post-operative discomfort. Often, no overnight hospitalization stay is required.
